According to UNEP, at least a quarter of the world’s land area is owned, managed, used or occupied by Indigenous peoples and local communities numbering more than 370 million in some 90 countries. While nature in these areas is degrading less quickly than in others, the threats posed by climate change and biodiversity loss to Indigenous lands and communities need urgent attention from policy and business leaders.

The themes to be explored during the three-day event will cover COVID-19, Women Empowerment, Education, Climate Action, Disaster Risk Reduction, Indigenous Data Sovereignty, Knowledge Transfer.

The Organizing Committee comprises Titus Letaapo, Samburu tribe, Kenya, James Rattling Leaf Sr., Rosebud Sioux tribe, South Dakota, US, Mario Vargas Shakaim, Shuar Nation, Ecuadorian Amazon, Diana Mastracci, GEO Secretariat, Communications consultant and Steven Ramage, GEO Secretariat, Head of External Relations.
