From antimicrobial resistance to off-grid solar: the Frontiers 2017 report explores emerging environmental issues facing the planet. It was launched at the third UN Environmental Assembly, held in Nairobi, Kenya, in December 2017, under the framework of the UN Science-Policy-Business Forum inaugural session.
The report reviews a series of key environmental questions: How does our careless disposal of antimicrobial drugs produce bacteria that can resist them? Why are Marine Protected Areas vital to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals? Can off-grid solar plug the energy gap for cities in the developing world?
The launch was held on 5 December 2017 during the third UN Environment Assembly and featured the report’s authors. The experts expanded on their finding during a special Frontiers 2017 press conference.
The report covers six key emerging issues: the environmental dimension of antimicrobial resistance; nanomaterials; Marine Protected Areas and sustainable development; sand and dust storms; off-grid solar solutions; and environmental displacement.
